Young Carers: Young Caregivers
Heavy burden on young shoulders
When parents, siblings, or grandparents become in need of care, everyone faces great challenges.
While adults already have life experience and strategies to cope with challenges, children and adolescents are still in a phase of development and are more than enough occupied with their own feelings. However, the need for care of close relatives does not pass by them without trace, but enormously shapes the lives of children and adolescents. Responsibility, role reversal, anger, grief, and overwhelm are already more than enough complex tasks that come with the situation. School, friends, and growing up suffer massively under the care situation, and often this burden only comes to light when acute crises arise.
The podcast is about the challenges faced by children and young people with caregiving responsibilities and how adults can provide support.
